About

To speak about Songonauts, I must first tell you about The Truth. The Truth is a fictional anthology podcast series created by Jonathan Mitchell. Each episode can take you through a world of comedy, or through your classic whodunit mystery. Very seldom does The Truth podcast feature a two-part episode but with the launch of Songonauts, it did just that and more. Songonauts was originally released through Truth’s podcast feed. With the popularity and multi-episode structure, Songonauts was placed into its own podcast feed.

In partnership with songwriter Jonathan Mann, the Songonauts follow a band, down on their luck, as they get transported into their song. Yes, this is a musical; a catchy musical at that. Unexpectedly, the band stumbles into saving music for all.

Thoughts

When I saw the title of the first episode, I was a bit jealous.  Here was a musical, and I wanted to do a musical. Listening, the music was upbeat with a familial vibe to it. It felt as though I was part of the band, or at least, one of the member’s cousin. Each episode left you wanting more and I unintentionally found myself tapping and nodding along to the songs only to have my world crash when the episode ended and the long winter of waiting for the next episode began. Though, because you all are joining later, you have the pleasure of binging all episodes. The Songonauts was a great change from other storytelling methods, yet still engaging in all the ways that you would expect. With its fun story and songs, this is something you can listen to again and again.
