KUT is a listener supported radio station and Austin’s very own NPR station. From this spawned KUT Weekend, a weekly podcast bringing you stories and news from Austin, Tx.
When I first moved to Austin, I wanted to get to know the city and what was happening in it. My first thought was to find a podcast that talked about the city and thus I found KUT Weekend. Every Friday my podcast feed is updated with the latest episode and I can catch-up on the stories I missed. This past Friday, one episode hit me a little more than usual.
I dubbed the title of this episode “Renter” when it’s officially just dated per its release. The story, focuses on Austin’s evictions & rent prices, which a few months ago hit a record high, and how a setback got one woman evicted and her struggle to keep her job thereafter.
This was a tough episode for me to listen to and yet it is the story we hear all too often. Someone falls on hard times financially, their wages are garnished which further exacerbates their financial dilemma. From there, things continue to spiral.
What’s happening in your city?
