Many, many, many months after the branding update, the website revamp is in place. Or at least, the primary pieces such as:

  • Homepage
  • Blog page (listing)
  • Podcast page (listing)
  • Podcast post template
  • Global footer

Why?

As mentioned in a previous podcast episode, your website should be updated regularly and ApexThis has not been updated since the launch in 2015. Suffice to say, it was needed.

Bonus Why

Outside of the aesthetic appeal and incorporating the branding elements, the revamp also sets in place an expandable structure and better templating.

The previous version of this site used the Genesis framework and I wrote a lot of custom code to get things the way I wanted. I have switched to the Divi framework for this update as I’ve already used it before and I have the plugin. This better allows me to create templates and reusable components for an upcoming Book store and product pages. Maybe in a version 3 or 4, I will make the switch to Webflow due to limitations in Divi.

Final Thoughts

Some changes are not retroactive when it comes templates such as the podcast template. For example; the podcast template received a big redesign BUT aspects of it prevent it from being updated. If I use it as a layout, I can modify BUT I don’t have the post content module that seeds the podcast feed. If I remove dynamic aspects, I can have some form of the original design but drastically reduced. The latter may be what I do and a future update will introduce some aesthetic changes.

Going forward, changes will be implemented and fixed in an agile fashion such as version 2.1 adding the book store and book pages as I prepare for Mixtape.

That’s it. That’s all I got.

Until next time.
