Why Publish An Income Report?

Publishing my quote-end-quote income report allows me to reflect back on the month to see what I did or didn’t do so well. Lastly, I have read other blog income reports such as SmartPassiveIncome and I like to see what they have tried. It is a form of motivation for me and I hope that this can be one for someone else. Be sure to check out CashFlowDiaries for bloggers that share their blog income reports. Or one that I’ve recently found from publisher Microcosm Publishing.

February 2017 Finance Report

Disclaimer: Any income reported will only be reported as “cash” in hand. If it did not deposit into my account, or if I didn’t cash a check, then it does not count as income. Additionally, income will only be reported for ApexThis business and not for personal income. I may discuss side hustles for additional side income, but only income in which I represent ApexThis will be counted.

Income/Investment Report

Austin Podcasters Meetup – ($204.97)

ApexThis sponsored the first Austin Podcasters meetup by providing food and beverages.

That is less time than last month and it shows.

What Happened?

Podcast

As above in the screenshot from Toggle, all of my time for the month was to write, record, and edit four podcast episodes. I categorize the work as Blog, Business or Podcast. The blog is for strictly blog work which was something I used to do. Podcast encapsulates everything needed for that episode and business is the other aspects such as email, site upkeep, writing this blog post.

February Goal Results:

One short story submission to a creative writing forum I frequent. This elicits feedback and contributes to my goal of publishing an anthology series (Fail)

I started three stories this month. All are new ideas unlike last month but I never finished them. Two are traditional, while one is a hybrid. This last one is a bit interesting. For the competition, I wanted to submit an audio piece, so I started writing the script, but in the script, the character is giving a speech.  I then figured I wouldn’t have time to record and edit, so I started to write the short story version and came upon the speech again. I then started researching speeches to see what I can harken back to in this fictional world and thought that this would be great for a Toastmasters speech. So, one way or another, you will hear it and maybe I will get a full piece of this together for a fictional story episode.

The first draft of ebook completed (Fail)

I think I opened Scrivener once to rearrange some things on this project. This project will become a number one focus for me and it may see me drop everything else until I can make good headway on this.

Write sponsorship letters (Fail)

I have not focused on business tasks this month and let this slip by.

First draft of next Toastmasters speech (Maybe)

Ok, you decide on this one. My short story submission gave me an idea for my Toastmasters speech and it’s partially written.

Complete reading of Merchants of Culture (Fail)

Yeah. It’s a good book thus far, so I need to dedicate 15 minutes per night to reading this. Adding to my calendar now.

What’s Next?

Same goals for March. How will I execute differently?

My overwhelming failures for the month were due to zero effort in planning. I did not time block any of the projects and therefore, I let them slide with an “I’ll do that later.” It wasn’t exactly terrible since I still worked on episodes during the weeknights. I will need to utilize my weekends much better.

Let’s see what this month brings.
